Level 2 Hairstylist
What is your mantra or favorite quote?
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs
This is my favorite quote, but really it is my mantra too. I gave up my career in nursing to pursue my dreams of being a Cosmetologist. When I realized I didn’t love what I was doing whole-heartedly, I knew it was time to chase my dreams. Now my schedule is busier than ever, but I wake up every day loving what I do, which I hope translates into my work.
What inspires you?
When people around me are succeeding, I feel inspired. I love hearing about other people’s successes and wins because it pushes me to want to be better. I never look around me and think I wish I had what they have. Instead, I try to learn from them and aspire to be better. To me, if you are a part of a team where you can cheer each other on, then you’re in the right place!
Who is your celebrity inspiration?
P!nk is a celebrity that I’ve always found inspiring. Sometimes in our lives we have a dream and we share that dream but we’re shot down. P!nk was told to look, act, and sing a certain way but it wasn’t true to herself. She never allowed anyone to put her in a box and with that attitude she was able to prove them wrong. My favorite quote from her is, “To me it’s about being an underdog and celebrating imperfections.” She is living proof that you should follow YOUR DREAMS, no matter what, and you shouldn’t live anyone else’s life. Maybe today you’re the underdog but you never know what tomorrow has in store for you. To me, that’s the beauty of the unknown.
Describe your style – both professionally and personally.
I would have to say my personal style is authentic. I’m not sure I could put a label on what I am other than just being me. I dress the way I like and have to feel comfortable in what I’m wearing. I have my old go-to’s that are part of my wardrobe but every once and a while I might catch you off guard with something out of the ordinary.
Obviously in my professional career I tend to wear mostly black and when I try to switch it up it usually feels wrong. I got used to wearing an all-black wardrobe in Cosmetology School. When I’m working, my go-to’s are fashionable high top sneakers or my Carlos Santana boots. As far as my working style, I would say the thing I try to bring to the table the most, is listening. I really think it’s important to listen to what your clients are saying and what they want. Being on the same page is very important and hopefully it’ll keep my clients coming back!
